Why Maedoc?

In the decades since I first picked up that borrowed video camera, I've interviewed world-renowned artists and cultural leaders and produced award-recognized documentaries for major broadcasters and cultural institutions.

Yet the simple film I made about my grandmother remains one of the most important projects of my career.

That experience inspired me to start MAEDOC FILMS — to help other families preserve their stories, their memories, and the voices of the people they love.

And because I love a good story, wherever it comes from.

I named the company after Saint Maedoc, a seventh-century Irish bishop associated with Ferns, County Wexford — my grandmother's hometown, and the place where this story began. Maedoc is also known as Saint Aidan (or Áedan), Saint Mogue (Irish: Mo Aodh Óg), and Saint Madoc.

It's a way of honoring my family's history, and the woman who first inspired me to pick up a camera.
